The board and staff of JCIE mourn the passing on May 3, 2021, of Ronald J. Anderson, a long-time JCIE board member and advisor and a prominent figure in US-Japan business relations and people-to-people exchange. Born and raised in Toronto, Ron lived and worked around the world as a pioneer in the field of international insurance. Much of his career focused on Asia, and from 1995 to 2001, he was Chairman & CEO of AIG Companies in Japan and Korea.
Ron joined the board of JCIE/USA in 2005, and before that, he served on the board of JCIE in Japan. Among other contributions, he played an important role for many years in championing JCIE’s US Congressional Staff Exchange Program, and he was instrumental in helping JCIE become active in the worldwide campaign to help stem the HIV/AIDS pandemic, which led to the creation of JCIE’s global health program. Ron served on the boards of a range of Asia-related organizations in the United States, Japan, and Korea, including the US-Japan Bridging Foundation, the Asia Society, and Temple University Japan, and he is survived by his wife, Maria, four children, their spouses, and eight grandchildren.
