UK-Japan 21st Century Group | 39th Conference

The 39th annual meeting of the UK-Japan 21st Century Group convened in London and Norwich on January 12–15, the first in-person program since 2019. The delegation began their stay in London, where they joined in a lunch meeting hosted by the Japan Society of the UK and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the UK as well as a dinner hosted by Mr Hiroshi Matsuura, Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary, Embassy of Japan. They also paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Close to 40 members from the United Kingdom and Japan participated in the dialogue. Over the course of seven sessions, politicians, journalists, businesspeople, and scholars discussed key topics including defense and security, integration of the Global South in worldwide collaboration, domestic and international economic security, and global health in the post-pandemic era.

A summary of discussions and recommendations is being prepared by the co-chairs to be presented to their respective governments and will be shared when available.
