March 23–25, 2018
Singapore

Leaders from the worlds of business, government, academia, media, and civil society from North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific gathered this past weekend for this year’s plenary meeting of the Trilateral Commission. JCIE serves as the secretariat for the Commission’s Asia Pacific Group.

In keynote speeches, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam called for greater efforts to make growth more inclusive, while Singapore’s FM Vivian Balakrishnan called on multilateral institutions to better reflect today’s dynamic changes while also “doubling down on free trade, economic integration, a multilateral approach, international institutions, and a multilateral, rules-based regime.”

In addition to discussions on the latest trade and security challenges facing each region, a Task Force Report was presented on the Artificial Intelligence Revolution, and sessions touched on AI’s implications for cybersecurity and for all aspects of modern society.
