2006 Japanese Diet Delegation to the US

Three of the most influential and articulate foreign policy experts in the Diet visited Washington DC, as part of JCIE’s 25th Parliamentary Exchange Program delegation from Japan to the United States. Representative Ichiro Aisawa (acting secretary general of the Liberal Democratic Party), Representative Shigeru Ishiba (former defense minister), and Representative Takeshi Iwaya held discussions with a wide range of top leaders, including Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick, key Congressional members, and think tank scholars. 

The three Diet members, along with Mr. Yasuo Yoshioka, Chief of Staff and Senior Policy Advisor to Representative Keizo Takemi, had the opportunity to exchange views with these American experts on such topics as international security, the future of East Asia, and China-Japan-US relations.
