4The 14th Australian delegation to visit Japan under the Australia-Japan Young Political Leaders Exchange visited Tokyo, Nagoya, and Kyoto from February 26 to March 5, 2005. In Tokyo, the delegation, led by MP Kate Ellis, had meetings with Diet members and government officials, including Yoriko Kawaguchi (former Minister for Foreign Affairs; Special Advisor to the Prime Minister), and Ichiro Aisawa (Senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs). They also met leaders from business and other sectors to discuss various issues associated with Japanese politics, economy, and foreign policy, and participated in a panel discussion with Diet members on the current state and the future prospects of Australia-Japan relations. In Nagoya, the delegates exchanged views with the Nagoya City assembly members, received a briefing on environmental issues from the city officials, and visited a local junior high school.
