2003 Japanese Young Political Leaders Delegation to Australia

The 10th Japanese Diet delegation to Australia under the Australia-Japan Young Political Leaders Exchange visited Canberra and Sydney on February 9-14, 2003. The six-member delegation, headed by Norihisa Tamura, member of the House of Representatives (LDP), met with leading political figures in Canberra, including the Hon. Alexander Downer MP (minister for foreign affairs), the Hon. Eric Abetz (special minister of state), Kevin Rudd MP (shadow minister for foreign affairs), Jenny Macklin (deputy leader of opposition, Australian Labor Party), and Andrew Bartlett (leader of the Australian Democrats). Discussions centered on mutually important issues, such as Iraq and North Korea. In Sydney, the delegates had the opportunity to meet with local political, business, and opinion leaders to speak about a variety of Australian domestic issues.
