8th Korea-Japan Forum

The eighth meeting of the Forum was held on September 16–18, 2000, in Fukushima, Japan with 44 leaders from the political, business, academic, media, and nonprofit sectors. Discussions focused on domestic sociopolitical and economic developments in Japan and Korea; the situation on the Korean peninsula and methods of regional cooperation; economic cooperation; and common challenges and new opportunities for cooperation.

Using the World Cup soccer games as a catalyst for a new level of exchange
New steps toward exchange of mass culture
Facilitating increased personal interactions (e.g., shuttle flights from Haneda, visa waivers, promotion of NGO cooperation, promotion of community-based exchange activities, etc.)
