Hiroshima G7 Global Health Taskforce Roundtable Discussion

November 30, 2022
Washington DC

In the leadup to Japan’s presidency of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima on May 19–21, 2023, JCIE has established the Hiroshima G7 Global Health Task Force under its Executive Committee on Global Health and Human Security to make recommendations to the Japanese government on the G7 agenda for global health.

To support this effort, JCIE/USA co-organized an in-person roundtable discussion with the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) featuring a presentation by the director of the task force, Dr. Hideaki Shiroyama (Director, IFI; Professor of Graduate School of Public Policy and Graduate Schools for Law and Politics, University of Tokyo), on the occasion of his visit to Washington DC. The event convened a group of approximately 30 leading US policymakers and experts to provide feedback to Dr. Shiroyama on the task force’s latest recommendations based on three main themes: 1) 100 Days Mission PLUS; 2) resilient, equitable, and sustainable UHC; and 3) global health architecture including sustainable financing. The discussion highlighted areas where Japan could make unique contributions to follow up on the previous presidencies  of the G7 by the United Kingdom and Germany and shape the global discourse on future pandemic preparedness and response.

The task force is expected to finalize its recommendations early next year.
