FGFJ | UNAIDS Executive Director Michel Sidibé Visits Japan

February 21–22, 2018
Tokyo

JCIE/FGFJ welcomed Michel Sidibé, Executive Director of UNAIDS, back to Japan. On his last visit in 2010, he attended the opening of the Access to Life Exhibition together with Michel Kazatchkine of the Global Fund, following which Japan announced its first $800 million pledge to the Global Fund.

This time, Mr. Sidibé spoke with JCIE’s Global Health and Human Security Executive Committee on February 21 on synergies between universal health coverage and the fight against HIV/AIDS.

On February 22, he held productive discussions with 9 Diet members from the Friends of the Global Fund, Japan (FGFJ) Diet Task Force and Board of Advisors, addressing topics such as how to get the most from investments in global health and the role that UNAIDS plays in providing strategic information, political advocacy, and policy support to help optimize the impact of Global Fund investments. Discussions also focused on the role of UNAIDS as an incubator of innovation and on its work providing real-time data and technical expertise to the Global Fund.
