The 5th meeting of the Diet Women’s Study Group focused on the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on society. Professor Kenji Kushida, research associate at Stanford University’s Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center and an affiliated researcher at the Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy, offered the viewpoint from Silicon Valley, representing the frontiers of the AI revolution. Kushida described the impact that AI is having on the corporate sector in the US and how the combination of venture capital, a strong labor market, and industry-academic cooperation are fuelling the growth in the field. He then looked at the opportunities for Japan in the AI as well as the IA (intelligence augmentation) fields.
