Global Health Working Group for the 2016 G7 Summit
May 21, 2016

An article titled, “Protecting Human Security: Proposals for the G7 Ise-Shima Summit in Japan,” authored by the Japan Global Health Working Group for the 2016 G7 Summit, appeared in the May 21 issue of the Lancet, a leading international medical journal. The paper offers comprehensive policy recommendations encompassing three areas for global health action by the G7 countries to enhance human security around the world:develop a global health architecture that enables effective preparedness and responses to health emergencies;

  1. develop platforms to share knowledge and practice regarding health system resilience and sustainability; and
  2. strengthen coordination and financing in research and development, and system innovations for global health security.

The Global Health Working Group for the 2016 G7 Summit was launched in December 2014 with the goal of developing policy recommendations for the G7 Ise-Shima Summit, which was held on May 26–27 in Japan. The Working Group was co-organized by JCIE and the University of Tokyo. The group’s recommendations resulted from evidence-based studies undertaken by Japanese and international experts and were further refined through discussions at two workshops held during the 2015 and 2016 Prince Mahidol Award Conferences (PMAC), and at a  roundtable held in Tokyo in December 2015.
