Atsuko Yokobori Geiger, Fellow

Atsuko Y. Geiger joined JCIE/USA in 2007 and is a fellow. She previously oversaw operations, including both financial management and office administration as director of operations. She also managed a number of programs, such as serving as the US side liaison for the Tiffany & Co. Foundation Award for Japanese Traditional Culture and Contemporary Society. Since March 2011, she has also been involved in JCIE’s disaster relief–related programs.

Dr. Geiger also co-authored “Donations from the United States” with JCIE colleague Satoko Ito, a featured article in the Japanese publication Giving Japan 2012. In addition, she co–wrote a special report called “Friendship across Borders: Nearly 100 US Sister City Organizations Raise Relief Funds for Japan” with JCIE colleague Toshihiro Menju which was included in JCIE’s September 2012 publication of Civil Society Monitor.

Dr. Geiger received her PhD from the University of Delaware. Her dissertation focused on the role of civil society organizations in the development of anti–human trafficking policy in Japan. She holds a BA in political science from Winona State University and an MA from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
